Performance data metrics stored in Athene's Performance Database can be sourced using either Athene's own data capture agents, Acquire, or via the Athene CustomDB (hyperlink) interface.

Using Acquire has several quantifiable benefits over the use of third party agents that supply data for CustomDB:

• efficient - only works when requested, minimizes overhead
• non-intrusive - uses standard data sources, no new and potentially dangerous software accessing kernel.
• common interface - hides the underlying data structures
• scaleable - works with data from as few or as many systems as you wish

The load placed on each system by data capture using Acquire is typically less than 1% of processor resources, ensuring that you see no adverse impact on service. No two environments record performance details in precisely the same way. Clearly using one product across all platforms saves time and money. The use of standard data sources ensures the operating system is not put at risk by the introduction of new software. Over 1500 metrics can be sampled.
