VIRTUALIZED PLATFORMS - Athene for virtualized systems
spacer

Athene provides common facilities for capacity management across all leading virtualized platforms. Data is stored in Athene’s enterprise wide capacity database, bringing all physical and virtual performance data into one location. A common set of Athene applications then support a full range of capacity analysis, reporting and planning functions whatever your operating environment. The benefits of this approach to capacity planning are that you:

  • SAVE TIME for the capacity analyst as they only need to use one solution
  • SAVE MONEY for the CIO as he only needs to licence one product

The business benefits from capacity planning reports that have a common presentation and view of applications and services irrespective of the different operating platforms and tiers across which they are being processed.

Gartner
Athene delivers the Gartner view of enterprise-wide capacity management:

Metron participates in alliance programs with all leading virtual operating system providers to ensure Athene anticipates future capacity management needs as virtual technology evolves. See our Partner Page for the range of strategic partnerships Metron maintains. Sample virtualized environments supported by Athene include:

VMware
Athene offers agentless data capture for VMware. Providing the most scalable solution in the market place through direct access to the vCenter database, Athene captures and centralizes all necessary VMware performance data for capacity analysis. Alternative approaches relying on VMware statistics collection to be activated either collect insufficient data if the collection level is too low, or incur unacceptable overhead if the collection level is too high. Metron’s innovative solution provides comprehensive data for negligible overhead to meet all your VMware capacity planning needs.
As a VMware TAP partner, VMware requests that we provide this VMware Support Policy statement.

Sun
Athene captures and displays performance data for Sun LDOMs and containers, showing performance and capacity data for the Global zone and individual partitions. Collected data is available as a complete capacity planning solution for analysis, reporting, trending and modeling.

IBM
Specific facilities within Athene capture data from within AIX LPARs. Using Athene for you capacity planning allows you to get to grips with the wealth of specific facilities (and acronyms!) that AIX supports for virtualization. Understand your SPURRs and PURRs, MaxCore, TurboCore, VIOS and more.

zVM
The mainframe was the original virtual server and still perhaps the one running the greatest range of business critical applications. In addition to standard zOS capacity management, Athene provides capture and display of zVM Monitor data, enabling full capacity analysis of Guests and LPARs within a zVM environment.

Xen
Previously a minefield of different virtualized implementations, Xen now offers a common interface to performance and capacity data across leading Xen and similar environments through the LibVirt routine. Athene uses LibVirt to provide full capacity management functionality across all leading Xen implementations.

Microsoft
Features within Athene enable users to analyze performance and capacity plan servers running both Microsoft Virtual Server and Hyper-V.
